Raschig Rings are cylindrical column packing elements manufactured from Borosilicate Glass 3.3, widely used in distillation, absorption, and extraction columns. They provide a large effective surface area for vapor–liquid contact, resulting in high separation efficiency with low pressure drop inside glass column systems.

These packings are available in sizes ranging from 8 mm to 50 mm, ensuring compatibility with laboratory-scale, pilot-scale, and industrial-scale separation processes. Their simple geometry enables uniform liquid distribution, stable column hydraulics, and reliable mass transfer performance.

Working Principle

1. Raschig Rings are randomly packed inside the column.
2. Liquid phase flows downward, wetting the ring surfaces.
3. Vapor phase flows upward in counter-current mode.
4. The large wetted surface area promotes effective vapor–liquid interaction.
5. Efficient mass transfer occurs with minimal pressure loss.
