HCl Purification System

High-Purity Hydrochloric Acid & HCl Gas Refining Solution

The HCL Purification System is an advanced glass-based process system designed to refine, clean, and upgrade hydrochloric acid or HCl gas streams to achieve high purity levels required for pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, and sensitive industrial applications.

This system removes moisture, dissolved gases, residual salts, and azeotropic impurities using a combination of controlled evaporation, condensation, scrubbing, and absorption stages, ensuring consistent and reliable acid quality.

Purpose of HCL Purification

Commercial hydrochloric acid (typically 30% HCl) often contains:

  1. Dissolved water vapor
  2. Trace impurities
  3. Acid-water azeotropic limitations

For critical reactions, ultrapure HCl (36–37%) or dry HCl gas is required to:

  • Improve reaction selectivity
  • Prevent contamination
  • Meet regulatory and quality standards

The HCL Purification System bridges this gap by converting commercial-grade acid or recovered HCl into high-purity hydrochloric acid or gas.

Working Principle

  • Controlled Feeding
Commercial-grade 30% HCl is metered into a glass reboiler.
  • Selective Evaporation
Heating media evaporates 20–22% HCl along with water vapor, separating impurities.
  • Condensation & Cooling
Vapors are condensed using cooling water and chilled water, enabling precise temperature control.
  • Gas & Acid Refinement
Non-condensable pure HCl gas exits from the top and is further processed through:
    • Scrubbing
    • Absorption
    • Optional adsorption stages
  • Final Product Output
    • Ultrapure HCl (36–37%), or
    • Purified HCl gas, depending on configuration

System Configuration

  • Glass reboiler unit
  • Condenser & top cooler
  • Scrubber / absorber column
  • Gas-liquid separation stages
  • Flow meters & temperature controls
  • Safety venting & containment

All wetted parts are manufactured from Borosilicate Glass 3.3, with PTFE-lined internals for superior corrosion resistance.
